Start with a beach, an outing, and a wet-day option

For a family week in Truro, choose one easy beach day, one outing away from the sand, and one indoor backup. Repeat favorites rather than filling all seven days.

• Beach day: compare the approach and facilities below, then arrange parking.
• A change of scene: choose a playground, a short bike ride, or Abiyoyo and the Wellfleet harbor.
• Rain: check an actual film, family event, or museum opening for your dates.

Choose the beach approach as carefully as the beach

Carrying a toddler, a cooler, and wet towels changes how a dune path feels. Corn Hill has a boardwalk approach; Great Hollow has stairs; Longnook has a steep dune path. Start with the access information and facilities in each beach guide, then choose for the group you have today.

For a first visit, pack for a shorter stay. Put water, snacks, sun protection, and the things you need immediately where they are easy to reach. Check parking arrangements before loading the car, and check posted conditions when you arrive. Bay-side does not mean risk-free swimming, and a pleasant walk need not become a swim.

How much of the bike trail should you ride?

Head of the Meadow is two miles one way, four miles out and back. Choose a turnaround for the least-confident rider. The dedicated bike-trail guide covers surfaces, access, parking, and the NPS source to check before leaving.

This is not the Cape Cod Rail Trail in South Wellfleet. Keep those as separate outings rather than promising children one route and arriving at another.

A playground or a child-led Wellfleet stop?

For a short play stop, try Puma Park at 7 Standish Way. Check the linked maintenance notice before a fall 2026 visit; the town has announced a September 21–October 5 closure.

For a village afternoon, Abiyoyo, 286 Main Street, Wellfleet, gives children toys, books, kites, and art supplies to browse. Pair that with a meal or harbor stop using the Wellfleet guide.

What can you do when it rains?

Keep a cottage option too: cards, drawing supplies, a book, and an easy lunch. A wet afternoon need not become a long replacement drive.
