Where to shop

For a full shop, choose Orleans on the way to Truro or Provincetown from your cottage. For a smaller shop or an easy meal, use the local markets and takeout choices below.

What is the easiest food plan for arrival day?

Choose the food stop around where you are and when you can get into the cottage. On a late arrival, bring dinner and breakfast unless you have confirmed an open business and its order cutoff.

  • Still heading down the Cape: Stop & Shop, 24 Route 6A, Orleans, is a full-shop option before continuing to Truro. Keep chilled food cold until check-in.
  • Already at the cottage: the Provincetown supermarket at 56 Shank Painter Road suits a full shop; use a local market below for fewer items.
  • Too tired to cook: check Montano’s ordering options for takeout or Days Market & Deli for deli food during its service hours. Check service hours and order before setting out.
  • Arriving late: bring an easy first meal, breakfast, and drinks. Do not make an unconfirmed restaurant closing time your only plan.

For a Saturday arrival, the Orleans store page checked September 23, 2026 lists 7 a.m.–10 p.m.; holidays and future seasons may differ. Check the store page before the drive. Montano’s lists a 4:30 p.m. opening, but that does not establish how late it accepts takeout orders.

Where should you do the main grocery shop?

For a full supermarket shop, one option is Stop & Shop at 56 Shank Painter Road in Provincetown. The official store page lists produce, dairy, meat, frozen food, deli items, and household supplies. Use its store page for hours and shopping options.

Arriving from the bridges? Stop & Shop at 24 Route 6A in Orleans is another main-shop option before continuing to Truro. Plan the stop around when you can actually access the cottage refrigerator. Buy chilled food toward the end of your errands and bring a cooler rather than leaving groceries in a warm car while waiting for check-in. Orleans store and pickup options.

Remember the Provincetown supermarket as A&P or Grand Union? The Shank Painter Road location is now Stop & Shop; Building Provincetown documents the name changes. Use the current name and address for directions.

For seasonal shopping, check the farmers-market dates in our events agenda. Truro and Wellfleet markets have different days and season dates.

Check online pickup or delivery against your exact dates and cottage address before relying on it; a service advertised by the chain is not a confirmed delivery slot for your stay.

Bring the first breakfast and an easy arrival meal if that makes your journey simpler. Once inside the cottage, check the refrigerator space and cookware before buying a week’s ingredients.

Where can you pick up lunch or a few extras?

Days Market & Deli, 271 Shore Road in Beach Point, is a specialty grocery and deli with prepared deli food. It is an option for lunch or a smaller shop rather than our substitute for the full supermarket run.

Check Days’ website before making a special trip, especially outside summer. If you need a particular ingredient, call ahead rather than assuming every market carries a full grocery range.

What about shopping in Truro Center?

Truro General Store, the stop returning visitors may remember as Jams, is listed at 14 Truro Center Road. Think deli food and a smaller provisions stop when you are in the village, not a substitute for choosing the right supermarket for a large shop. Its business-managed listing supplies the current name, address and telephone: 508-349-1616.

Call for daily hours and kitchen service. Combine the stop with a visit to Pamet Harbor; park separately at each destination.

Where can you buy spices and cooking supplies?

Atlantic Spice is at 2 Shore Road in North Truro, near the Route 6 and Route 6A junction. Its retail range includes herbs, spices, teas, and kitchen items. Use it for pantry extras, not as a replacement for fresh groceries.

Look at the retail store information before going. Buying a few ingredients you will actually use makes more sense than stocking a vacation pantry from scratch.

Where can you stop for produce and a beach lunch?

Hillside Farmstand, 300 Route 6 in Truro, is a seasonal stop for produce and baked goods, described in the local farmstand directory. Call 774-538-7153 for opening hours and what's available before a special trip.

There is a useful pairing here: Box Lunch's own site lists its Truro location at Hillside Farmstand, with rollwiches and a separate ordering number, 508-487-4545. Check the Box Lunch menu and location before ordering; a farmstand visit and a sandwich pickup may have different service hours.

For market-day shopping, use the dated events agenda rather than assuming a farmers market runs every day.

Where can you buy seafood to cook at the cottage?

Mac's Wellfleet Market is at 265 Commercial Street, on the pier. This is the market to investigate for ingredients; Mac's on the Pier is the food-service option at the same address, and Mac's Shack is a separate restaurant at 91 Commercial Street. Choose the right operation in Mac's location directory.

If your supermarket trip takes you to Provincetown, Mac's also lists a market at 85 Shank Painter Road. Buy according to the cooking equipment and refrigeration you have, and ask the market about preparation and transport. Do not plan a lobster boil around a small cottage saucepan.

Where can you buy beer, wine or spirits?

Salty Market, 2 Highland Road in North Truro, advertises groceries, sandwiches and alcohol on its own website. It makes sense to check it for a small food-and-drink shop together. Confirm a specific bottle or product directly rather than assuming supermarket-sized stock.

Pamet Valley Package, 172 Route 6 in Truro, is a dedicated package-store option. Its advertisement in the 2025 Provincetown Portuguese Festival booklet lists 508-349-3715. Call for opening hours.

Being near a beach does not make alcohol or glass permitted there. These are cottage-shopping suggestions; follow the rules for wherever you take your purchases.

What if you want food without cooking a whole dinner?

Far Land Provisions at 150 Bradford Street in Provincetown offers sandwiches and prepared foods through its deli. East End Market at 212 Bradford Street is another market/deli lead, listed by the Provincetown Business Guild; use its website or 508-487-2339 for the day's kitchen options.

These make more sense when you are already heading toward Provincetown than as automatic replacements for a closer Truro stop. For morning food, see coffee and breakfast sandwiches; for a full meal out, use food and drink.

What food should you buy for the first day?

Start with breakfast, one easy meal, and a beach lunch rather than ingredients for every dinner.

  • Breakfast: your preferred coffee or tea, milk, and something that needs little preparation.
  • Arrival meal: something that works with the kitchen’s confirmed equipment, or a takeout order for an available pickup time.
  • Beach lunch: food containers, a cooler, snacks, and drinks.
  • Cooking basics: only the oil, seasonings, and other essentials your host does not supply.

The food and takeout guide links directly to restaurant menus. Check service times before deciding that takeout is your late-arrival fallback.

Which supplies should you ask the host about?

Ask what is included before buying paper goods, cleaning supplies, or coffee accessories. The useful question is not just “is the kitchen equipped?” but whether it has the items your meals need.

Confirm the coffee-maker type, dishwasher and detergent, dish towels, trash bags, and grill fuel. If you intend to cook for the cottage’s full guest capacity, ask about the size of the dining table, pans, and refrigerator too.

Bring reusable bags and a cooler for the journey. Use the arrival checklist for linens, check-in, and the non-food essentials.
