Ask your host for a supply list before packing. Confirm these details:
- Bed sizes, sheets, pillowcases, blankets, and pillows.

- Coffee: maker type and any filters or pods it needs.
- Kitchen and bathroom supplies: dish soap, dishwasher detergent, trash bags, and starting supplies of toilet paper.
- Laundry: washer and dryer access, whether shared, and any payment required.
- Beach gear: chairs, umbrellas, and space to store your own equipment.
- Grill: type and whether fuel is supplied.

Ask what to do if you arrive before check-in or after the host's usual contact hours. Save the departure instructions too, including checkout time and whether any laundry or trash tasks are expected. Do not share entry codes in public messages or reviews.

Locate the Wi-Fi information, heating or cooling instructions, trash and recycling arrangements, and the agreed storage spot for wet beach gear. Ask the host about unfamiliar appliances instead of guessing. Do not operate locked, labeled, or unfamiliar utility controls.

Before the final morning: check the departure list
Read the host’s checkout instructions the day before leaving. Cleaning fees do not tell you which tasks, if any, are still expected of guests.
- Confirm the tasks: used linens, rubbish and recycling, leftover food, keys, and beach equipment.
- Check for belongings: drawers, chargers, the outdoor shower, and laundry.
- Report any problem: tell the host about damage or maintenance needs through the agreed contact.
Plan the drive, check-in, and first grocery stop together

- Arriving early: ask whether you may park or refrigerate groceries before check-in. An early departure does not create early access to the cottage.
- Shopping on the way: use the arrival food plan to choose an Orleans supermarket stop or food nearer the cottage. Keep chilled food in a cooler and avoid a long outing before refrigeration.
- Arriving late: have a first-meal plan that does not depend on a seasonal business staying open. Save entry instructions before departure.
- Leaving: allow room for your actual route and any booked connection; last summer’s drive time is not a reliable deadline.
