Start with the community, then the cottage
A familiar colony name can be a good starting point, particularly if you have stayed there before. But it is the individual cottage that determines your beds, kitchen, outdoor space, and available dates. Save the unit name as well as the community name when you find a place you like.

Dunes Colony
An owner’s rental listing identifies its cottage as part of Dunes Colony in North Truro, with access to a private Cape Cod Bay beach. Use the listing for that particular home’s layout, photographs, and terms; its amenities should not be assumed to apply to every cottage in the community.

Open the specific unit’s source for beds, outdoor space, beach arrangements, and booking terms. A shared name does not make every cottage interchangeable.
Booking two cottages together?
Confirm both specific units and their dates before treating a community as a shared family booking. Two advertisements with the same colony name do not establish that the homes are next door or managed together.
Ask each host about arrival days, minimum stays, visitor limits, parking, and whether your groups may gather in one cottage’s outdoor space. Match cancellation and payment deadlines where possible so one family is not committed while the other is still waiting for an answer.
Keep each rental agreement attached to the correct unit. Community photographs can make different cottages look interchangeable when their beds, equipment, and terms are not.
What to ask before you choose
Ask which beach entrance comes with the rental, where your car goes, and whether outdoor space is private or shared. For two families booking nearby cottages, confirm both reservations before making plans around being neighbors. A community can feel familiar while individual homes change hands or leave the rental market.
